The fifth-generation iPad Air, released at Apple’s “Peek Performance” event on Tuesday, sports an Apple Silicon M1 chipset, which includes the same CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine cores as its iPad Pro models.

Apple says that the new device is faster than its speediest competitor — and twice as fast as the best-selling Windows laptop in the same price range.

In addition, the fifth-generation iPad Air now includes an upgraded 12MP ultra-wide front camera and support for Apple’s Center Stage. It also includes support for second-generation Apple Pencil.

Beyond the updated specifications, the new iPad Air has the same general design as its predecessor. The iPad Air also retains an LCD Liquid Retina display that doesn’t incorporate mini LED backlighting.
