Young LNP members post racist video to Facebook

The chair of the Gold Coast Young Liberals has confirmed he appeared in a racially offensive video posted to a social media platform on the weekend and removed overnight.

A social media backlash has forced a Young Liberals branch to delete an offensive video along with their social media accounts overnight.

The video showed young LNP member  and chair of the Gold Coast branch, Barclay McGain, openly laughing at racist remarks made by  young LNP volunteer, Jake Scott, in the Surfers Paradise mall during Schoolies.

Mr Scott was asked to provide his views on the Australian flag and anthem.

“Personally I’m fed up with having all of these sports stars stand out on our stages  and not sing the national anthem.,” replied Mr Scott.

“They’re putting our Australian jumper on, they’re going to sing the anthem.

“I mean, we’ve got to stop celebrating a culture that couldn’t even invent the bloody wheel for god’s sake. We’ve got to start enjoying and living in Western Culture.”

The video then showed Mr McGain giggling at the racist comments.

On Tuesday, the Liberal National Party said in a statement that it became aware of the post on Monday afternoon and that the video did not reflect the “values and beliefs of the Party”.

“The members involved will be subject to the LNP’s internal disciplinary process,” it said.

“All LNP members are expected to uphold the values of the Party at all times.”

Queensland Environment minister Leeanne Enoch also condemned the comments on Tuesday and called on the LNP to address the “racists elements” in the party.

“These kinds of view should not be allowed to simmer within any organisation. Swift action needs to be taken,” she said in a statement.

Mr Barclay declined to comment on the video when contacted by NITV-SBS.
