Sydney mum claims $12 million Powerball prize after seeing posts on Facebook

A Sydney mum is $12 million richer after learning she’d won Powerball.

The Merrylands woman held the only division one winning entry from Thursday night’s draw, not knowing she was a multi-millionaire for two days.

As her entry wasn’t registered to a Players Club card, NSW Lotteries had no way to know who bought the ticket, only knowing where it was sold.

The prize may have gone unclaimed forever, had it not been for a Facebook post telling her to check her ticket.

“That’s so cool! That’s so cool to hear that,” she told NSW Lotteries when she was confirmed as the winner.

“We were getting ready for bed last night, and it said on Facebook that someone bought in the winning ticket in Greystanes but haven’t claimed it. I thought ‘Oh my goodness, maybe it’s me?’

“That’s when I went and checked my ticket.

“I got someone to read out the winning numbers and I was shaking as I was looking at my ticket and marking each number off.

“It was just shock. It’s surreal. It’s completely surreal.”

‘Completely surreal’

The Merrylands mum confessed she was still “processing” her new multi-millionaire status, and what she’ll do with her newfound wealth.

While no firm plans had been made yet, she’s vowed to show up to work on Monday.
