2 suspects in Ottawa burglary shared on Facebook arrested

Two of the suspects in an Ottawa burglary were arrested Sunday.

Wesley T. Brewer, 19, Ottawa, was arrested Sunday at La Salle Street and Norris Drive while Michael G. Thompson, 24, Ottawa, was arrested at his residence Monday morning. Both were arrested on a La Salle County warrant for a charge of residential burglary and taken to the county jail.

Arrest warrants were issued on Sept. 20 for Brewer and Thompson as well as Xavier A. Bennett, 21, Ottawa, after the three men were identified as suspects of an Ottawa burglary in the 1200 block of Ontario Street that was caught on video and shared on Facebook. Bennett is still wanted by police.

Ottawa police responded at 5:20 a.m. Sept. 16 to the scene for a report of a burglary in progress. Police arrived and determined the suspects had already fled the area. They began to investigate and reviewed the homeowner’s security camera footage, which had been shared on Facebook.

Police have previously said they believe it was an isolated incident and no danger to the public exists.
