Virgin Media customers face imminent price rise and that's not the only bad news


Virgin Media users are facing higher bills with the increase coming into force within a matter of weeks.

The broadband and TV firm announced the hike earlier in the year with customers being hit by the bigger bills from October 1st.

The rise will add around £3.30 to the average bill although Virgin has confirmed that some users may see things increase by as much as £4.50.

If things are going up in your home then you should have received an email or letter revealing how much more you’ll pay.

In the message seen by express.co.uk, customers are told: “Dear Customer, we know a price rise is never welcome news, but to allow us to continue investing now and in the future, your monthly price will go up by £3.50 from your October bill.”

Virgin Media clearly knows that price rises are never welcome with the firm saying it’s investing heavily in its service.

In a statement, the firm said: “Changing prices is not a decision we take lightly. We invest more than £1billion a year in our network and services to keep giving our customers great value.

“We are committed to giving our customers an incredible service with unrivalled connectivity, great, high-quality programming and innovative new upgrades – and our customers can expect much more to come.”

That October hike isn’t the only piece of bad news facing current users as Virgin is now offering some huge deals but only for new customers.

The new sale gives those signing up to Virgin for the first time the chance to get up to £150 bill credit with certain bundles.

Those opting for the Bigger Bundle (£57 per month) will get £100 credited to their account or there’s £150 back for those wanting to access the Ultimate Oomph Bundle (£89 per month).

The Bigger Bundle includes average download speeds of 108Mbps plus TV and phone with the Ultimate option bringing 516Mbps to your home – that’s fast enough to download a full HD movie in under two minutes.

Oomph also comes with a swathe of TV channels including sports and movies plus there’s an unlimited smartphone SIM thrown in as well.

As we mentioned before, these huge savings are only available for new customers so they won’t help if you are about to be hit by the hike.

It is, however, worth calling Virgin Media and discussing your bill as there’s always a chance they might offer a lower price rather than lose your business to a competitor.
