Shubhankar Chakraborty allegedly committed suicide on Sunday by hanging himself in his rented house in New Delhi and streamed the act live on Facebook, the police said.

A man committed suicide in East Delhi’s Shahdara on Sunday and a made the video of the incident go live on social media platform Facebook.
The victim, Shubhankar Chakraborty (27), hailed from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
Shubhankar Chakraborty was an employee of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Shubhankar Chakraborty allegedly committed suicide on Sunday by hanging himself in his rented house in New Delhi and streamed the act live on Facebook, the police said.
According to Shubhankar Chakraborty’s Facebook activity log, he updated his Facebook cover photo before committing suicide. The photo had text which read, “I quit.”
When Shubhankar Chakraborty streamed his suicide live on Facebook, his friends quickly dialed for help and the police reached the spot.
The police tried to open the door of Shubhankar’s rented room but it was locked from the inside. After the police managed to get inside the room, they did not find any suicide note from there.
The police said, “Shubhankar was found hanging from a hook in the ceiling with a yellow plastic wire around his neck. No suicide note has been found from the place of the incident.”
The Facebook live stream purportedly showed him climbing atop a cooler, wearing the DMRC uniform. He looked into the camera a couple of times, kissed his company identity card twice before taking his life.
A mobile phone kept buzzing in the background as he allegedly committed the act.
